She really cares about her students and will really help you during her office hours. It really helps if you already have some AP CHEM knowledge before coming into the class. Really emphasizing that last sentence. Her lecture notes are interactive so you go along with her filling in pages of notes together throughout the class.

Let me start of by saying Dr. A most definitely wrote those previous responses about herself. C'mon seriously? Maybe its because we are engineers and those that responded were bio/ag majors but she is the most inapproachable (in class... office hours were better) professor I have ever had. Without taking AP chem in high school I would have been completely lost because she creates this atmosphere of superiority and intolerance for those who do not understand immediately. Another possible reason for this class being trash was that our LA was a minion of Dr. A and they would constantly blame each other for grading errors---there was NO accountability. I do giver her credit that during her office hours she was much more approachable, but why would you want to go to her office hours if she is so goddamn salty all of the time? Avoid this class like the plague... it will be an absolute pain in the ass. Extremely harsh grader.... but the class is graded on a curve so you just have to endure this BS better than others. If you get her, don't give up and do exactly what she says and stay low-key... Retaliation will only hurt you and she will always win---extremely tiny Persian lady with a large, authoritative personality.

I went into this class frightened because everyone says the Gen Chem series is awful. First of all, they're not wrong. Gen Chem is challenging but Dr. A is the best. I disliked her at first because she goes through material very quickly and talks very fast. . I enjoyed Dr. A as a professor because I was always able to ask her questions and she never made me feel dumb. If you don't feel comfortable asking her in class, go to office hours! I went all the time to ask questions and have her check my labs, she is super nice! Fair WARNING, her midterms are very hard and tricky, and she does "pop" quizzes (but she tells you about them in advance). Memorize the nomenclature, don't be lazy, you'll need it for the rest of gen chem anyway. She will a nice curve at the end of the class, so as long as you do well on labs and quizzes, and try your best on midterms, you'll be alright!!! Take Dr. A, challenging but she will be the best one to teach the information to you!

I had Dr. A for Chem 127 and it was a challenging course and she is a tough professor, but she is great! I chose her for 128 because I already knew how her class was going to be structured and she knew me from the previous class. Chem 128 is probably as equally difficult as 127, it's a lot more math, and conceptual. Dr. A's midterms were just as hard as 127. She has three of them, and quizzes throughout the class. One recommendation for this class in general is to review notes right when you get out of lecture or later that day. It will really help you to understand what is going on before next lecture because Dr. A is speedy and won't waste time for anyone. Take Dr. A, she rocks! Disclaimer: the kinetics lab at the end is terrible and difficult, make it through as best you can. Also workshops for this class help a ton!
