Andy is a great professor and should get more credit for being one. Some of these polyratings are harsh. If you just did the work and took the time to care about your essays you will do fine in the class. YES, he does voice his opinion often but never makes you feel bad for having a different one.

It is really up to the student to make this class interesting. Most of class time is discussion based, so if you want it to be interesting, come prepared with something to say. Otherwise, you will just sit there for two hours. Andy is very friendly and helpful, but a little disorganized. There was no schedule for the quarter, but only weekly schedules. Reading quizzes were manageable, grammar quizzes were very easy and he lets you use owlpurdue.com for help. If you are a decent writer, you will do fine in this class!

I love English and was excited for this class, but I was disappointed. He does not post grades on polylearn so it is difficult to know what you have in the class, and his grading is often confusing. There is group work, quizzes and essays due constantly which lead to a heavy workload. Not many people did the reading so we didn't have much to discuss which lead to a very long 2 hour class. He seems like a nice guy and he wasn't a bad teacher, but I would not recommend taking this class if you have another option because it was harder than the GE should have been.

As a teacher, Andy does an average job. He tells you what chapter to read for homework, he goes over a couple of examples of documents that you will have to write for the class, and he gives grammar quizzes which aren't terribly difficult and you can do the quizzes in groups. The iFixit project in this class was a little time consuming, but not particularly difficult. The hard part and time consuming part about this class was the writing assignments. The requirements for these assignments were never 100% clear which was ironic because a lot of this class's material has to do with making your documents clear and accessible to your audience. I'm sure if you read the book, which I failed to do, writing each assignment would be easier. Andy doesn't seem to be a really tough grader, and it seems that he will pretty much give everyone at least a B because he wants everyone to do well.
